CHOOSING AN AMIGA AND THE DIFFERENCES

This article is going to help you choose an Amiga, what are the
advantages over an Amiga to a PC? Take a look................
A500
****
The base machine. This is one of the baby Amiga's who hangs around with
his twins the A600 and A500+. It comes with WB1.3 and has a 68000
CPU as standard. It has the fatter Agnus chip , 1 Floppy drive an can come
with a HD or not. It has 512k as standard. Cost £199:00
A500+

The other base machine, It comes with a 68000 as standard and 1mb built in,
battery backed real time clock. 1 Floppy and a HD if asked for. WB2.05,
Kickstart 37.300/37.175/37.299. An ECS chip set including the Hi-res denise
which provides the extra graphic modes, and a super fat agnus chip which can
support up to 2mb's. Cost £150:00 - £199:00
A600

The other base machine, comes with a 68000, 1 floppy, HD if asked for, 1mb
chip ram, built in floppy drive. Kickstart 37.175/37.299/37.300. ECS Chip
set. Identical to the A500+ but with out the battery backed clock. It also
is £100:00 cheaper than the A500+ but less expandable due to surface mount
technology.
A600HD

As above with the inclusion of a 20mb HD. Cost £220:00
Amiga CDTV

An Amiga500 with a CD Rom built in. Black colored. 68000 CPU External
optional keyboard costing £50 disk drive optional £99. Lets you use a whole
range of CD titles which are also available to A500/500+/600 user by use of
the A570/670. Round Joystick ports like the C16 and a new expansion port.
WB 1.3 Kick1.3. Price around £150:00. Killed off by CD³².
Amiga 1200

Cut down version of the A4000. AGA chip set. Workbench 3.00 Kick 3.00.
Kick 39.100. Casing is a similar design to A600 but with the addition
of the numeric keypad. A cross between the A600 and the A500.
Price around £299:00.
Amiga CD³²

The long awaited CDTV². Or the Amiga CD console. CD³² is a grey coloured
box, looking similar to a SEGA megadrive. It used CD's and doesn't need
a caddy. Looks beutiful! Kick 3.00 , Workbench N/A. Price £299.00

Now onto the BIG AMIGA's
A1000

This machine is the original Amiga back in 1984. It is a very expandable
machine. With a 68000 CPU, almost identical to the A2000. A different
expansion port to the 2000 though. External keyboard and 1 built in floppy
drive, 216k memory as standard no HD can be bought with it though it can
still be bought externally in some companies as can the memory expansions.
WB1.2 Kick comes on a disk, V1.2
A1500

An A2000 with a different badge and an extra floppy. Can be bought with a HD
or not. The A1500 is the ideal computer for the family or business,
designed to cover every ones needs. WB2.04 Kick2.00
A2000

Identical to the A1000 with an optional HD. WB2.00 Kick2.00
Kick is a chip not a disk on this version.
A2200

Commodore decided not to market this machine any where in the world. in
short was discontinued before it even was released.
A2500

An A2000 with a 68020 processor.
A3000

The second from top machine, 68030 CPU, 32bit processor, 1mb floppy /High
density floppy if asked for, 200mb HD , 2mb chip ram 4mb fast. This is the
same as the A3000T-040/200. WB2.00 Kick2.00
A4000/30

A4000 with a cut down processor (680EC30). Cost £1500:00
A4000

68040 CPU,1 floppy clocked at 25mhz, 2MB of chip for graphics and 4MB Fast ,
120Mb HD is included, floppy is high density, can read PC disks. 3 AC slots
for PC cards are included, 24bit Video slot and 4 ZorroIII slots. Advanced
graphics and chip set. Max colors 16.7 million 256.000 can be displayed as
Super HAM (HAM8) can be used. 32bit. 64 pixel sprites. WB3.0 Kick3.0
includes cross-DOS. Sold for $3966 £2000 in UK. AGA chip set.
